기아의 첫 전용 전기차 EV6 출시에 맞춰 약 1년간 EV6를 집중적으로 소개하기 위해 조성한 특화 브랜드 거점 프로젝트입니다. ‘언플러그드 그라운드’라는 이름으로 성수동에 문을 연 이 공간은 단순한 차량 전시장을 넘어, EV6가 제안하는 새로운 이동 방식과 라이프스타일을 체험할 수 있도록 기획하였습니다. 기존 방직공장 건물을 전시장으로 전환하여 성수동의 장소적 맥락을 유지하면서도 기아의 미래지향적인 브랜드 이미지를 담아냈습니다.

프로젝트의 디자인 콘셉트는 ‘Moment Layer’로, 매 순간 EV6와 함께 떠나는 다채로운 여정을 의미합니다. 이는 긴 주행거리와 충전에 대한 부담에서 벗어나 자유로운 이동을 제안하는 EV6의 ‘Unplugged Journey’ 메시지에서 출발하였습니다. 특히 새로운 기술과 경험에 민감한 20~40대 스마트 슈머를 주요 대상으로 설정하고, 차량의 기능을 일방적으로 전달하기보다 방문객이 EV6와 함께하는 다양한 순간과 여행의 가능성을 공간적으로 경험하도록 구성하였습니다.

과거 방직공장이었던 대상지의 장소성은 수많은 실타래와 그로부터 이어지는 실의 이미지로 재해석하였습니다. 실의 흐름을 차량과 함께 연출하여 공간 전체에 연속적인 서사를 만들고, 기존 산업 공간의 기억과 EV6의 혁신적인 기술이 하나의 장면 안에서 공존하도록 하였습니다. 이를 통해 과거 공장지대였던 성수동 특유의 거칠고 자유로운 분위기와 기아 최초 전용 전기차를 선보이는 미래적인 감성이 결합된 새로운 영감의 장소를 완성하였습니다.

This project was developed as a dedicated brand destination to promote Kia’s first dedicated electric vehicle, the EV6, for approximately one year following its launch. Opened in Seongsu-dong under the name “Unplugged Ground,” the space was conceived not simply as a vehicle showroom, but as an experiential environment where visitors could encounter the new mobility lifestyle proposed by the EV6. A former textile factory was transformed into the exhibition venue, allowing the project to preserve the site’s industrial character while introducing Kia’s future-oriented brand identity.

The design concept, “Moment Layer,” represents the diverse journeys and experiences that unfold with the EV6 in every moment. It was inspired by the message of “Unplugged Journey,” which emphasizes the freedom enabled by the vehicle’s long driving range and reduced concern over charging. Targeting smart consumers in their 20s to 40s with strong early-adopter tendencies, the space was designed to move beyond the conventional presentation of technical features and instead allow visitors to experience the many possibilities of traveling and living with the EV6.

Drawing from the site’s history as a textile factory, the design reinterpreted spools of thread and the flowing lines extending from them as key spatial elements. These threads were arranged in relation to the vehicles, creating a continuous narrative throughout the exhibition and connecting the memory of the former industrial site with the innovative technology of the EV6. The result is an inspiring environment where the raw, grunge-like atmosphere of Seongsu’s industrial past coexists with the futuristic sensibility of a space introducing Kia’s first dedicated electric vehicle.
